Strength FAQ

Strength training is a form of resistance-based exercise designed to build muscle, improve power, and increase the body’s ability to handle load with control. It involves results-driven training with a focus on form, heavier weights, and building a stronger, more powerful body. In practice, that means purposeful movement, progressive challenge, and coaching that helps you move well before you move more. Equinox’s most popular signature class is Stronger, designed around the principles of 3 types of strength: endurance, maximal, and explosive. Leg Day is our lower-body focused signature strength class. The legs house the largest muscle groups in the body–invest a little, and the entire system gets stronger.

Functional strength training builds strength that carries into the way you move every day and perform across other workouts. Equinox’s signature class, 360 Strength, is designed as a three-dimensional strength built through dynamic exercises using tools like the landmine, heavy dumbbells, and ViPR to unlock movement potential and enhance resilience. The goal is not just stronger muscles, but a stronger system—one that supports stability, coordination, and better movement under load.

Yes. Strength training can increase calorie burn during the workout, and building lean muscle mass helps you burn more calories at rest. That makes it valuable not only for getting stronger, but for improving overall body composition and long-term performance. A well-designed 30-minute strength workout (like Upper Body Pump or Best Butt Ever) can still deliver meaningful results when the programming is focused and the effort is high.

The right frequency depends on your experience, recovery, and goals, but consistency matters more than extremes. The most common recommendation is doing that routine twice a week for the biggest benefits, which is a practical benchmark for building a strong foundation. Recovery and nutrition matter, too: steady daily protein intake for strength training supports muscle repair and progress over time. The most effective plan is one you can sustain, with enough coaching and progression to keep moving forward.
