MOVE

Take the shrimp squat challenge.

The shrimp squat is an advanced move that works the quads, glutes, and hamstrings. Colleen Conlon offers several regressions of the exercise in her Athletic Conditioning: Shrimp Squat Challenge class on Variis. Try this one to get similar benefits: Step backwards with your hands on hips. Hinge at the hips and drop the back knee, then come back up, and repeat on the other side. Continue, alternating sides, for 30 seconds. “What’s important here is that you’re hinging at the hips before you bend the knee of the front leg,” says Conlon. “Your knee should be really close to the front leg’s foot. If it’s starting to drift back you’re probably not hinging, you’re probably doing more a reverse lunge."

EAT

Make a colorful fall salad.

Acorn squash is an iconic fall ingredient that boasts high levels of nutrients like vitamin C. In this sheet-pan salad, it's combined with vitamin K-rich radicchio and roasted with a bit of honey until tender and caramelized. Grapes and mint add a freshness to this colorful seasonal meal.

DE-STRESS

Avoid teeth grinding damage.

"Our teeth are taking a big hit from pandemic stress," says Carolyn Taggart-Burns, DDS, of Millard Oaks Dental in Omaha, Nebraska. "Clenching and grinding, which can cause pain and even fracture teeth, is at an all-time high."

Her advice: Schedule your routine cleanings, and if you experience signs of nighttime clenching, like jaw soreness, headaches, or temperature sensitivity, consider wearing a nighttime dental guard (like from DenTek) to help prevent some of the damage, she adds
