Concentrate on your form.
MOVE

Glute move: lunge combo

“As you do your curtsy, try to cross your right leg as far behind the left as possible,” says Colleen Conlon, who begins her MetCon class on Variis with this quad- and glute-strengthener. “Then, as you go into the lateral lunge, bend the stepping leg while keeping the other straight.” Do it for 30 seconds on that side, then repeat on the other. The whole time, keep your chest up and pull your shoulders back.

EAT

Marinate melon.

Hydrating cucumber and watermelon come together in this seasonal salad that’s both sweet and savory. Marinating the melon in shallot vinaigrette intensifies its flavor; serve alongside grilled proteins.

DE-STRESS

Work in the shade.

Direct sunlight on the head can impair motor and cognitive performance and may affect productivity, according to a new study at the University of Copenhagen. If WFH is inspiring you to take the office outside, be sure to cover your head or find a shady spot.

CONNECT

Find compatible competitors.

“Competition is really about getting the best out of ourselves,” says Denver-based sports psychologist Justin Ross, Psy.D. “We do that so much more readily when we’re connected to another person or group.”

Whether your sessions take place at the club or on a distanced run, be sure you and your training partner have similar approaches to competition. “If it’s fun and inspiring to rag on each other, go for it,” says Lani Lawrence, Psy.D., LA-based certified mental performance consultant. If that’s not the case, though, Lawrence recommends finding someone with a like-minded approach.
