CLEAN UP YOUR FORM: CHEST PRESS TO FLY

Proper form is key to minimizing injuries and maximizing your training. For the chest press to fly, Gerard Thelemaque gives the following pointers in his Pure Strength: Strong and Centered class on Equinox+.
  • To get set up properly, bring the dumbbells above your knees, then lower down to the ground.
  • Pretend that there’s a pencil right in between your shoulder blades that you want to keep there.
  • Maintain a slight bend in your elbows for that fly.
  • Squeeze the pecs together at the top of the movement.

MAKE RADISH AND BEET SALAD

This nourishing, clean salad is rich in antioxidants and aids in digestion thanks to its two main ingredients, radishes and beets. Crunchy hazelnuts add texture and depth, while mint provides a fresh note. Serve with a boiled egg or two for extra protein. Double the tahini-mustard dressing—you’ll want leftovers.

EQX GUIDES: SPRING SKIN

“Spring means warmer weather, so you’ll produce a lot more oils and sweat,” says Jode Castillo, a licensed esthetician at The Spa locations in New York City. Seasonal allergies, she adds, can also wreak havoc on your skin as your immune system goes into defense mode when pollen enters the body, causing the release of the chemical histamines that trigger symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes. Here, her skin tips for the season:

CLEANSERS: Level-up your cleanser by using products with powerful acids, like the recently-launched Alo Glow Enzyme Cleanser, and SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser, available at The Spa.

MOISTURIZERS: “Because of spring’s higher temperature and humidity, reach for a lighter moisturizer that gives you enough hydration without feeling slick.”

EYECARE: Allergies may cause you to rub your eyes, which can damage blood vessels and create wrinkles, Castillo explains. If you find yourself rubbing your eyes, be as gentle as possible.

BROKEN CAPILLARIES: “Another problem that I see among many of my clients is broken capillaries around the creases of their nose,” says Castillo. A culprit may be putting too much pressure on your nose while you blow it, by blowing with both nostrils and pinching your nose. Instead, Castillo recommends holding one nostril and blowing gently before doing the other side and refraining from pinching your nose while sneezing.
