MONDAY | 3.8.2021 To celebrate International Women’s Day, today’s Class Drop on Equinox+ features female instructors supporting other female instructors. By taking each other’s classes, they help to raise one another, and all women, up. Here, some empowering takeaways:

SUPPORT YOUR TRAINING PARTNER(S).

Breanna Cummings’s Metcon3 LIVE class on Equinox+ features a female-powered playlist and guest coach Corky Corkum from Precision Run. "I’ve met so many amazing women in Equinox+," says Cummings. "We really love showing support to one another. It makes being in this space amazing every single day."

MAKE YOUR RIDE A PARTY.

“We’re celebrating your life, what’s ahead of you,” says Jenny Gaither, in her SoulCycle Claim Your Space class on Equinox+. This special ride, featuring [solidcore]’s Meagan Robar, celebrates the women before us, women today, and women of the future. “Let’s get clear, let’s see some serious goals ahead of us,” Gaither says. “And we’re going to dance our way through it, baby!” And don’t worry about being “perfect,” in the saddle or otherwise. “This is not about perfection, it’s about progress. If you think about the evolution of our equality, our rights, it’s been progress. It hasn’t gotten perfect yet but the progress we’ve made sure does count.”

CELEBRATE FEMALE RUNNERS.

“There’s a big boom right now in women’s running and it’s just really exciting,” says Corky Corkum, in her Full Support Precision Run class on Equinox+ that is all about women supporting women in the sport. Joining Corkum is Breanna Cummings from Equinox. Throughout the run, Corkum and Cummings discuss their favorite female runners. Corkum cites Deena Kastor. “She celebrates and shares what she loves about the sport which is putting in the work, being competitive with yourself, and having a good positive relationship with the work, too.” Cummings recalls a favorite athlete from her childhood: Florence Griffith-Joyner (“Flo-Jo”). “She had the flashiest uniforms, the flashiest nails, she really brought personality to track and field for me,” says Cummings.  

After warming up, try segment three from the run:

-Start at a medium run pace (5 to 6 out of 10) for 30 seconds.

-Speed up to a sprint (9 to 10 out of 10) for 30 seconds.

-Recover for 90 seconds.

-Repeat 4 times. 

DEDICATE YOUR SWEAT TO A STRONG WOMAN.

“When I think of women’s history, and the movers and shakers of the world, they owned their vulnerability and therefore, they acted with courage, team,” says Meagan Robar, in her Sweat as One [solidcore] class, featuring special guest Jenny Gaither from SoulCycle. “I had the pleasure of joining Jenny in her class and she kicked my butt and this is what it’s all about: women coming together to support each other because we’re stronger together.” Try the plank extension from Robar’s class: Press your forearms into the mat, rock your shoulders back behind your elbows and use your transverse abdominal muscles to restack. Try to rock back an extra inch for those women in your life that you support, says Robar. “You know who I’m doing it for? My mother, the strongest woman I know.”
