Equinox Indoor Triathlon Participation Rules

This indoor Triathlon will consist of a 500 yard swim, a 10 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run.  There will be 10 minutes allowed between transitions from the swim to the bike and from the bike to the run, creating a safe atmosphere for all involved.  The Top 75 posted member times for total time, will result in (1) Escape from Alcatraz entry slot award. (Winner is responsible for Escape from Alcatraz $500 registration fee as well as transportation and accommodations for event).  For details go to www.escapefromalcatraztriathlon.com

The Equinox Indoor Triathlon will take place on Saturday March 17 or Saturday March 24 at pre-determined Equinox clubs throughout the country.  Any current Equinox Member may participate and register at their club of choice. You do not have to be an All Access Member to participate in this event. The event entry fee is $25 of which 100% will be donated to The Heroes Project.   

Entry submission needs to be completed prior to the scheduled event for staffing purposes.

SWIM

  • Participant must wear an individually colored cap
  • Participant must complete 10 Laps for a 25 Yd Pool or 12.5 Laps for a 20 Yd Pool.
  • Participant must swim in assigned lane
  • No flotation devices allowed
  • No propulsion devices allowed i.e. Swim Fins
  • No Snorkels Allowed
  • No Wetsuits Allowed
  • Participant may stop and rest, at the start side of the pool deck, staying clear of competing swimmers
  • No interference with others swimmers
  • Drafting is allowed in lanes with multiple swimmers
  • Passing should be done at the turn with a tap on the swimmers feet; Courtesy and sportsmanship must be used.
  • Blocking or failing to yield for a pass will result in DQ.
  • There is a 30 minute time limit to complete the swim distance
  • Participants have 10 minutes to transition from Swim finish to Bike Start.

BIKE

  • Participant allowed 2 minutes to adjust bike before starting.  (strongly suggest knowing your Spin Bike settings prior to race)
  • Participants may use clip in cycle shoes or sneakers with Baskets
  • Participant may use any resistance level they choose
  • Participant may sit, stand or use any combination to complete 10 miles
  • Participant must raise hand before reaching the 10 mile mark to give the proctor time to verify distance and record bike split.
  • It is the participant’s responsibility to gain attention of proctor
  • iPods are allowed
  • Must utilize bike with computer to measure miles
  • Participant may stop and rest at any time during time trial.
  • There is a 1 hour minute time limit to complete the bike distance
  • Participant will have 10 minutes upon completing the bike leg, to transition to the run portion.

RUN

  • Treadmill time will be the official split time
  • Participant may choose any grade or speed
  • Once Treadmill started, Participant cannot get off the belt.
  • Should participant need a bathroom break or have a need to get off the treadmill, he or she must gain the attention of the proctor to have their time recorded.  
  • Participant may resume with Proctor certification of stop age
  • Immediate disqualification should participant dismount the treadmill without the proper supervision of the proctor.
  • iPods are allowed
  • Participant must raise hand when nearing the 3.1 mile mark to gain proctors attention.  
  • It is the participant’s responsibility to gain proctors attention for proper time verification

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Transition times will not be included in total event time
  • Each Participant will be give up to 10 minutes to transition from each event
  • Participants may register for additional Time Trials based upon availability in hopes of improving their time.  Each Time Trial requires an additional entry fee.
  • Winners of the Alcatraz Slot must register and secure their slot no later than May 2nd
  • Failure to secure your slot, will result in a slot roll down to the next fastest posted time, becoming eligible to acquire slot.
  • Participant is responsible for Alcatraz registration fees ($500) and all expenses related to travel and participation of event
  • The 75 Alcatraz Slots will be distributed between genders based upon event registration.  Example: if 52% of registered participants are women, than there will be 39 Alcatraz slots dedicated to that gender.
  • All entrants release Equinox and  its related companies from any and all liability from injury, loss or damage  of any kind resulting from participation in the Equinox Indoor Triathlon or  the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.  
  • By accepting a prize, you are  granting permission for Equinox to use you name and likeness, without  compensation, for advertising and publicity purposes.  
  • Winners may be required to  complete eligibility documentation to claim a prize.  
  • All federal, state and local laws  and regulations apply.  Void where prohibited.
